Smart home

Smart home technology, planned with the build

NEUE plans smart home technology into custom homes and renovations: automated lighting, motorized shades, climate control, security, whole-home Wi-Fi and audio. We design it with you, and our licensed electrical partners do the wiring while the walls are open, so nothing is an afterthought.

What we build in

  • Lighting control with scenes, schedules and keypads instead of banks of switches
  • Motorized shades with hidden pockets in the ceiling
  • Climate: zoned heating and cooling, smart thermostats, in-floor heat
  • Security: cameras, smart locks, doorbells and sensors
  • Networking: structured wiring, mesh Wi-Fi and a proper equipment closet
  • Audio and theatre: in-ceiling speakers and media rooms
  • Energy: EV chargers, standby generators and battery backup

Why plan it during construction

Retrofitting wiring through finished walls is slow and messy. During framing we run low-voltage cable to every ceiling, window and TV location, add conduit for future changes, and place blocking for shades and screens. It costs little at that stage and keeps every option open.

Systems that age well

Technology changes faster than houses. We favour open, well-supported platforms, keep a wired backbone that outlasts any single app, and document every device and login so the house is not tied to one installer. Basic switches still work if the internet is down.

Licensed electrical work

In Ontario, electrical work must be done by an ECRA/ESA licensed electrical contractor. Our licensed electrical partners handle all line-voltage wiring, permits and ESA inspections.

We work across Northumberland County (Colborne, Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton), Quinte, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, with Barrie from early 2027.

Questions, answered

During design and framing, before drywall. Running cable then is fast and inexpensive, and it keeps future options open.
