Additional residential units are the big opportunity
Since August 2023, most Peterborough homes can have up to two additional residential units. For many owners, a legal basement suite or a detached garden suite is the best return available on their property, as rental income or a home for family. The City's pre-approved plans for detached units shorten the permit, and the City's guide sets out the requirements. Peterborough's older homes often need structural and mechanical work before the finishes: stone foundations to waterproof or underpin, knob-and-tube wiring, old drains and no insulation. We open, photograph and price what we find before doing extra work, and nothing changes without your signature.
